Elephant Care International is expanding!

We have been operating under the "fiscal sponsorship" of the Oregon Zoo Foundation (thank you!) since early  2000 when we founded Elephant Care International to support our Sumatran Elephant Healthcare and Conservation Program.  This provided a vehicle to accept donations that would have tax benefits for donors.  We have now re-organized as an incorporated nonprofit organization and received IRS tax-exempt status.  This allows us to accept donations directly.

We have adopted an expanded mission and set specific goals and strategies to accomplish those goals.  We have also taken several steps to assure the independence, continuity, integrity, and professionalism of our expanded operation.  We have a professional Board of Directors and a superb international Advisory Board.  We have a comprehensive set of by-laws with a strict conflict-of-interest policy.  We are establishing a formal Statement of Values and Code of Ethics.  

Measuring Outcomes:

Our success depends on our integrity, credibility, and your trust.  Governments, granting agencies, foundations, and donors want proof that donations produce benefits. Volunteers want to know that their time really makes a difference. Everyone wants, and should have, accountability. Our accounting uses the Unified Chart of Accounts and reporting will be to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Outcome measurement can provide valuable input to adapt and improve programs.  Yet, as Albert Einstein said:

Elephant Care International will deliver accountability to its constituency.  What can be counted, will be. What cannot, will be explained in a manner that warrants the continued support of donors.
