Elephant Book Donation Project
Information exchange and technology transfer are critical to the survival of elephants. Only by sharing resources and knowledge across borders can we hope to save elephants in the wild and improve the healthcare and welfare of elephants in captivity.
Elephant Biology, Medicine, and Surgery, edited by Dr. Murray Fowler and Dr. Susan Mikota was published in 2006 and today (2023) remains the only elephant healthcare textbook.
With funding from the Abraham Foundation and Colombus Zoo, Elephant Care International was able to purchase and distribute 125 copies of the book to elephant veterinarians, zoos, and libraries in Asia. Some books were presented at meetings; others were mailed. The book was distributed together with a CD from the Wildlife Information Network (no longer extant)
